I was initially attracted to Dundee to do a PhD because there was a group working on an area I found fascinating. Having previously studied in London, I was apprehensive about what it would be like to live in Dundee. However, I quickly found the environment friendly and accessible. Speaking to friends at the time, I think it’s easy to be dismissive of the University of Dundee. It perhaps doesn’t have the name recognition of other Universities. However, the research facilities are exceptional. Equally importantly, within the division of gene regulation and expression, I found a community of motivated and interactive scientists. I feel this environment really helped me develop and get a sense of what is possible in research
