Second GRE ISAB Symposium, May 2010 May 5, 2010 In May this year the Wellcome Trust Centre for Gene Regulation and Expression welcomed its International Scientific Advisory Board for the second ISAB Symposium. The ISAB visit took place on May 20th and 21st 2010. The visitors included Iain Mattaj, Director General of EMBL since 2005 (Chair of the ISAB), Nick Hastie, Director of the MRC Human Genetics Unit, Ron Laskey, Director of the Hutchison/MRC Research Centre, Frank Grosveld, Chairman of Cell Biology at the Erasmus Medical Center, Susan Gasser, Director of the Friedrich Miescher Institute, and Professor Tim Hunt of the CRUK London Research Institute [link to ISAB page here] as well as guests from the Wellcome Trust. The regular visit by the advisory board is an opportunity for the Principal investigators of the Wellcome Trust Centre for Gene Regulation and Expression to submit their research and the Centre’s strategic priorities to the members who are all internationally recognized experts in the field of gene regulation research. As well as seminars and individual meetings the Board members attended poster presentations by the Centre’s post-docs and PhD students. “The Centre aspires to the highest standards of scientific research,” said Professor Angus Lamond, Director of the Centre. “We are grateful to have such outstanding scientists on our International scientific Advisory Board and we always benefit from their advice on the scope of our research and the organisation and management of our Centre.” “We aim to recruit leading scientists from around the world and to provide them with state of the art scientific resources and infrastructure to stimulate collaboration and interdisciplinary research. The ISAB provide valuable assistance in making sure our research remains at the cutting edge of the competitive field of gene regulation and expression.”
