PhDs Awarded October 6, 2011 Michael Johnston from Gyorgy Hutvagner’s laboratory, successfully passed his PhD viva 21 October 2010. Michael’s thesis title was “Characterisationof Argonaute Interacting proteins and their functions in small RNA mediated silencing”. He presented his research to at 12:15 and his viva was from 2pm to 6pm. The internal examiner was Victoria Cowling and the external Andrew Hamilton from the University of Glasgow. Patrick van Uden of the Rocha lab successfully defended his PhD entitled: NF-kappaB regulates the HIF pathway under normoxic conditions on the 15th of September 2010. His external examiner was Prof. Derek Mann from Newcastle University and his internal Prof. Inke Nathke.
