sarah-lena-offenburgerCongratulation to Sarah-Lena Offenburger from Anton Gartner’s group who successfully defended her thesis entitled: ‘A transthyretin-related gene and a neuroligin-like gene prevent dopaminergic neurodegeneration in C. elegans’. Very broadly speaking her research investigates how dopaminergic neurons are protected. This has a relation to Parkinson’s disease where the very same neurons are lost. Her work was initiated by Parkinson’s UK funding and the bulk of her work was supported by a Wellcome Trust Fellowship.
