New Principal Investigator Dr. Eric Griffis arrives in Dundee July 17, 2010 The Wellcome Trust Centre for Gene Regulation and Expression is delighted to announce the arrival of its new Principal Investigator, Dr Eric Griffis. Dr. Griffis, recipient of a Wellcome Trust Research Career Development Fellowships worth £700,000 earlier this year, arrived in Dundee with his family from California last week. Previously at the University of California, San Francisco, the Wellcome Fellowship has enabled Dr. Griffis to move to the the Wellcome Trust Centre for Gene Regulation and Expression to continue his studies on the regulation of the localisation and dynamics of non-muscle myosin II during cell division and cell migration. The Fellowship is one of four providing funding for salaries, equipment, and consumables at the College of Life Sciences over five years. Eric Griffis grew up near Atlanta, Georgia, USA and studied at Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia, and Emory University in Atlanta before moving to the University of California, San Francisco in 2004. His graduate research focused on the dynamics of the nuclear pore complex (NPC) and how it may be regulated by events within the nucleus. His first informal visit to Dundee was in 2006 and in May 2009 he chose to move here, to the College of Life Sciences, despite counter-offers from other universities in the UK and US. He says, ‘I felt that Dundee offered the best combination of colleagues, facilities, and infrastructure.’
