GRE to host 2012 Feldberg Prize Lecture June 19, 2012 The Centre for Gene Regulation and Expression is hosting the 2012 Feldberg Prize Lecture. The Feldberg Prize is awarded by the Feldberg Foundation, which aims to promote scientific contact between German and English scientists within the sphere of experimental medical research, in particular in physiology, pharmacology and related topics. Each year a German and a British scientist are chosen to receive a prize. In recognition of the bestowal of the prize, each recipient gives a lecture in each other’s country. The prizes are awarded to German scientists resident in Germany and to British scientists resident in the United Kingdom. This year’s German prizewinner is Iain Mattaj, Director General of the EMBL, Heidelberg and a member of the GRE International Scientific Advisory Board. Prof. Mattaj is a distinguished scientist whose contributions have been recognised by his election as a Fellow of the Royal Society (London), Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh, Member of Academia Europea and Foreign Honorary Member of the American Academy of Arts and Science. He is a member of the European Molecular Biology Organisation (EMBO) and helped make The EMBO Journal a highly successful international scientific journal, acting as Executive Editor from 1990 to 2004. He is also due to receive an Honorary Degree from the University of Dundee at the Graduation Ceremony on 21 June 2012. His prize lecture entitled “(Re-)Building the Nuclear Envelope” will be delivered on Friday 22 June at 4pm in the MSI Small Lecture Theatre.
