daniel_0-1Daniel Bandarra (Rocha lab) took the prize for best PhD talk at the Second European NF-kappaB Subunit Workshop, held in Pitlochry this October, for “HIF-1alpha restricts NF-kappaB dependent gene expression to control innate immunity signals”. The results presented in Daniel’s talk demonstrated that Hypoxia-inducible factor (HIF) has a pronounced effect on the NF-kappaB response to inflammation, and revealed a novel role for HIF in the repression of the inflammatory response in Drosophila and cancer cell lines.

Said Daniel, “I was very surprised and honoured to win. It is always good to hear useful feedback from the world leading experts in the field. Having won this prize just before my PhD viva gave me extra motivation and confidence to successfully achieve my PhD conclusion.”
